Jeff Herman Virtual Resource Center
The Jeff Herman Virtual Resource Center (JHVRC) for Sexual Orientation Issues in the Jewish Community is a web-based educational environment for all those interested in learning about Judaism, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. It contains the largest online gathering of articles, texts, and websites on Judaism and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender topics in the world. The JHVRC also features answers to Frequently Asked Questions, case studies exploring how issues of sexual orientation might be discussed in a Jewish context, and guides for studying biblical and rabbinic text.

As part of the the Institute for Judaism, Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity, the JHVRC is a growing and dynamic tool for change, helping individuals to understand the religious, cultural, health and communal needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Jews and their families. The Institute hopes that through study and interaction with the JHVRC, its users will ultimately become "agents of change" who are able to create safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces wherever they are.

The JHVRC was made possible by the generosity of Rabbi Erwin Herman z"l and his wife Agnes Herman, CSW. The Virtual Resource Center is dedicated to the memory of their son Jeff Herman, who died of AIDS in 1992. The Jeff Herman Virtual Resource Center continues the Herman's life-long support for LGBT causes and their dedication to the Jewish community. The Institute for Judaism and Sexual Orientation and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion are indebted to the Herman's for their vision and generosity.

The Jeff Herman Virtual Resource Center was designed by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's National Department of eLearning. The mission of the Department is "to enhance, to expand, and to extend all learning opportunities at HUC-JIR."
