News IJSO Advisory Board member Rabbi Denise Eger speaks at the Human Rights Campaign Clergy for Justice rally in Washington, D.C.
We commend IJSO Advisory Board member Rabbi Denise Eger of Congregation Kol Ami who recently spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Clergy for Justice rally in Washington DC to support the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and The Matthew Shepard Act, also known as the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
The ENDA legislation would address discrimination in the workplace by making it illegal to fire, refuse to hire or refuse to promote an employee simply based on the person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
Rabbi Eger's passionate words were picked up by multiple media outlets. She reminded us that the Torah and Jewish tradition teaches that we have an obligation to be fair to and to protect the rights of workers. The full press conference can be seen on YouTube. Rabbi Eger's remarks begin at about minute 8.
